Panthers Defeat Bruins In Season Opener
The Pine View Panthers traveled to Orem, Friday, to take on the Mountain View Bruins in their 2008 season opener. Fans who arrived 15 seconds late for the game missed the Panthers first score. Senior Tanner Wood returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown to start the season out right for the Panthers who went on to defeat the Bruins 28-6.
In spite of Pine View's quick score, the game was close in the first half, as the Bruins used their ball control offense to effectively grind out yardage and burn clock. The Bruins vaunted running backs, Anthony Heimuli and TJ Mounga, proved to be as talented as advertised, but their valiant rushing efforts were not enough to overcome a bruising Pine View defense that created four turnovers and left both of them injured, and exhausted by the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, the Pine View running duo of Justin Ence and Villiami Hafoka put on a show of their own, combining to rush for over 260 yards behind their massive offensive line.
The Pine View passing attack seemed somewhat out of sync with the loss of Robert Evans, but Ence still managed to complete 6 out of 11 for 109 yards, with one interception. His outstanding scrambling abilities, coupled with good protection up front, helped him avoid any sacks, even in the face of a Bruin defense that blitzed regularly throughout the first half. The Panthers answered Mountain View's defensive pressure with screen passes to Hafoka and Wood that netted big gains and forced the Bruins to rethink their strategy.
In the second half the Bruins chose to sit back in coverage, rather than blitz, which allowed the Panthers to exploit them with their inside zone rushing attack. Pinned on their own 1 yard line, early in the second half, the Panther offense went to their ground game, almost exclusively, and marched 99 yards for a touchdown to seize the momentum.
The game was marred by turnovers and penalties, typical of opening games. Pine View turned the ball over four times and committed 8 penalties for 77 yards, including a controversial call that brought back an 83 yard touchdown run by Ence.

Robert Evans Injured
The Panthers suffered a huge loss recently when all-state wide receiver Robert Evans sustained a season ending injury to his knee during practice. Evans reportedly tore his ACL and will require surgery. In spite of his injury, Evans was elected a team captain for the season by his teammates, a true testament to the huge amount of respect his teammates hold for him.Created: Sun 24 Aug 2008 - Updated: Sun 24 Aug 2008
Panther Strength Training News
While there are still many unknowns surrounding the 2008 Pine View Panthers, one thing is for sure; they will be faster and stronger than last year's team. After undergoing a rigorous offseason strength and conditioning program, an unprecedented number of Pine View players are posting big numbers in the weight room. Coach Dale Stott, a physician and nationally certified strength coach (who personally supervises the strength training of the linemen), has been able to achieve these successes while strictly avoiding and prohibiting steroid use of any kind relying instead upon his long experience with and unique approach to strength training.
THE 900 CLUB (bench max + squat max)

He has already bench pressed 405 pounds and squatted 525 pounds, making him the sole member of Pine View's 900 club.

Pine View Freshman Wins Long Snapping Competition
July 7, 2008
With the graduation of Pine View long snapper Nate Needham in 2007, the Panther's found themselves in the unenviable position of not having a single player with long snapping experience. The search for a replacement turned frantic two days before the Las Vegas game, when open try outs failed to produce a competent candidate from among the Varsity or Junior Varsity squads. In desperation, the Panther's turned to freshman center Trevor Stott, who had yet to play his first high school game. In spite of his lack of experience, Stott did well enough in his hurried try out to earn the job, and two days later the fourteen year old was snapping for the varsity squad in their game with Las Vegas.
Since that time Stott has developed his skills considerably. Recently he attended the Ray Guy Kicking and Long Snapping Camp in Salt Lake City, where he participated in the Long Snapping competition. He not only won the competition, but also did well enough to earn a national ranking. He currently is ranked eighth in the Western Region of the United States and 41st nationally for all high school classes. He is ranked second in the nation for the class of 2011.

Panthers win UNLV 7 on 7 passing tournament
06/14/2008
The Panthers Varsity football team attended the UNLV seven on seven passing tournament on Saturday and ended up winning in the finals against a very familiar opponent: their own Junior Varsity. That's right; Pine View took first and second place at UNLV, with both teams racking up impressive records along the way. In fact, the JV defeated Bishop Gorman High, the reigning Nevada 4a state champions, en route to the championship game. Other local teams playing in the tournament included both Dixie and Snow Canyon High Schools.
06/12/2008
Pine View continued its tradition of strong performaces at the Utah State Padded Team camp last week. The Panthers not only dominated every scrimmage, they also were unstoppable in the goalline challege, and won all but one game in the 7 on 7 passing league. The only negative in the camp was a knee injury to varsity back up quarterback, Chase Jones.
The sophomore and JV teams also performed well in the scrimmages against opponents from around the state, as well as teams from Nevada and Idaho.
